Which is a Better Workout ?Treadmill or Elliptical Trainer?
March 10, 2010 by admin
We live in a society obsessed with losing weight and getting fit. In response there are countless products on the market that claim to get you in shape. Most are fads that come and go. For example, how many people are still working out with a Thigh Master. But, occasionally an exercise machine is designed that gets results. It promotes fitness and wellness. It helps both novice and fitness enthusiasts reach their exercise goals. It has 'staying' power! The two most popular fitness machines that fit this qualification are treadmills and elliptical trainers. The tried and true treadmill has been around for years. It remains popular due to its appeal to both novice and seasoned athletes. It is a simple machine that requires no special skills, all you need to do is walk, jog or run. Although relatively new in comparison to a treadmill, the elliptical trainer is growing in popularity. In shear numbers the treadmill outsells ellipticals, but by percentage the elliptical is gaining in sales. It offers the benefit of a total body workout without the impact.
How do treadmills compare with elliptical training equipment? What benefits do each machine offer? Could either be right for you? Treadmills are the most popular fitness equipment. They are simple to use and provide an excellent cardiovascular workout. Treadmills allow you to walk, jog or run. In addition, they can simulate hill climbing. In shear numbers running and walking are the most popular form of exercise. Whether you are a casual walker or a serious runner, a treadmill can accommodate your exercise needs. By setting the speed and incline you can adjust your cardio workout to any level ?from casual walking to heart pounding running. Most power treadmills offer a number of pre-set programs and intensity levels from which to choose. On these particular machines, you may program in your personal information (i.e. age, weight, height, fitness level, etc.). Then, you may choose a pre-set program (such as ‘killer hill,’ interval training?or ‘weight-loss’), and the unit will automatically adjust the workout to fit your specifications. You can bypass the pre-set programs and manually adjust the incline, speed, and the time yourself. And, even if you've chosen a pre-set program, you have the option of changing the incline level or speed level at any time. Running on a treadmill with a nicely cushioned running surface provides less impact on the knees, shins, ankles, back, and joints than does running on pavement. As a result, the runner who uses a treadmill is less likely to sustain a running injury than a runner who runs upon a harder surface. (Nonetheless, a runner’s body will still experience impact when the foot lands on the belt.) Outdoors, you could possibly trip over a rock or twist your ankle in an unseen hole in the ground. You don’t have to worry about unseen road or trail hazards when exercising on a treadmill. You need only maintain your rhythm on the moving belt.

Coach Youth Soccer: Want To Know The Training Drills

Let’s face it! To coach youth soccer, it is a challenge to be creative and come up with innovative tips and techniques to train the kids. In teaching soccer, the biggest difficulty is to keep thinking about new ideas that make the training for kids interesting.
What follow are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These drills help the kids focus on the game, get good at soccer, and enjoy it to the core.
Get the kids going with dribbling and shooting: This is a simple drill that involves all the players at the same time. Ask the players to queue on a single goal line. Now, spread the balls all over the soccer field. Then, make the kids move with the ball as if they are attacking the opponent’s goal. They should also hit the ball as soon as they get a chance.
This drill goes a long way in improving the stamina, dribbling skills, and confidence of the players. As the players do not have any opposing players, it makes them showcase their personal styles too.
Passing the Ball: In this game, make the kids stand in a queue at a distant corner of the field. Start counting till 3 and when you finish, order them to run to you as fast as they can. Ask the player running towards you to try to take the possession of the ball from the player who has it. When you shout stop, the ball must be passed by the player who has it to someone else.
In order to coach youth soccer, these games help the kids display their abilities in passing and dribbling. At the same time, they learn the skill of clinching the ball from others which is also vital.
Touch and Go: It’s a very interesting game which kids love to play. It requires the kids to stand in two rows under 40 meters away from the position of the goal. Moreover, it’s the goalie who should protect the goalpost. You should stand someplace between the two rows.
You pass the ball to one line and subsequently coach them to shoot or pass the ball with one stroke only. The objective should be to attack the goal. The goalkeeper must then return the ball and the practice continues.
Swap your goalies in between the practice meetings if there are more than two goalkeepers. This sport enables players to perk up their shooting skills through team effort. The goalkeeper becomes skilled at protecting the ball from converting to a goal.
Maintaining the custody of the ball: The players will learn the art to proceed with the ball without losing its possession. Engage two players, one protecting the ball and the other attacking it. The players should then to told to proceed as per their part and try to get a point every time by leading another player.
These are the easiest ways to coach youth soccer. When you have your kids do these drills, they’ll not only learn but enjoy as well. If you would like more such tips and know about drills, join our youth soccer coaching community.

The Six Month Milestone For New Families
March 9, 2010 by admin
The initial six months of a new baby’s life are amazing. These tiny little bodies and minds grow so much in the first half year that it can literally leave you speechless. Each little event has been followed by another to create an entire string of little miracles in your life. The blending of family is not always smooth, but the initial six months gives you all a chance to come together and strive for better tomorrows and more miracles.
In the last few months you have taken the baby bath into the real tub instead of the sink. The Dect baby monitor doesn’t wake you with crying, but with babbling. And you have finally mastered the art of making fresh baby food in the Hamilton Beach food processor that you were given, along with the expectation.
The first half of a year is usually dedicated to an adjustment period. These are known as the quiet months where you and your baby have started bonding and you start to learn balancing techniques to make life easier. The quiet will soon be replaced by a toddler, and most parents are still madly in love with the tiny things like watching their baby sleep.
Celebration is often called for as this time passes. Parties that mark the occasion are common, especially when family and friends have been part of the initial six month adjustment period. This time is when people stop seeing you as a new parent, and start referring to you as a parent.
There is such significant growth of the family unit, whether that is two or twelve individuals, during the first six months that it can seem like you’ve all evolved into different people. The initial stages have transformed you all in some way. Many people find the changes positive while others find the changes neutral or negative.
Some couples find that this is the time that they can come back together. Working and taking on their new parental role can be difficult for some couples, and the end result is a need to spend some uninterrupted time together to come back to each other. Other couples are madly in love and feel closer than ever.
The beautiful part about reaching the six month stage is that all of the wondrous events that have happened will culminate into more wondrous events along the way. While there will certainly be challenges and difficulties, there will be additional moments that you will only ever experience once.
The first six months are definitely irreplaceable. They are also considered to be the transitional months. Many parents take this milestone to celebrate while also checking in with the world around them. It’s a good time to make sure that family, friends, and those who share your life most intimately are really doing just fine. It’s a check in period that can assure everyone that the safety net of your love is still right there.
Need A Professional Massage

I for one am always asking my girlfriend to give me a massage but the real problem is although she tries she just isn’t very good at giving them and to be honest it doest do anything other than increase the pain in my back. So what did I decide was the best thing to do? Perhaps go on one of those spa breaks. I had to take the girlfriend with me really didnt I, however I went to a spa here in the UK before I went out for that big break.
The First Massage
I walked into the building feeling more than a bit nervous because this was the first time I had stepped into a spaand the first time I experienced professional masaage. I went in expecting someone around the mid twenties that looked pretty awesome, I wasnt wrong! This woman told me where to sit and what my problem was and as soon as her hands hit my back I felt like I had been touched by an angel. After around thirty minutes the massage came to an end and I walked out feeling fresh and revitalised. I had to go on that break now.
Choosing
The thing is there are so many locations from Bali spa holidays to Egypt spa holidays that I just had no idea on where to go. The location that we eventually chose to travel too was Egypt and this was because we spent the second week in the valley of the kings.
The Stay
The great thing about the break is that I had a massage booked in for every day that I was there along with a few other treatments. Valley Of The Kings was a very easy trip indeed, we found the first week was so relaxing that walking in the sun was not a problem.
One of the best things to do is just go and try having a professional massage, you could really find yourself likeing it.
What Everyone Should Know about Disabled Access Ramps

Here I have provided answers to some of the most common wheelchair ramp related questions
* What types of wheelchair ramp can be found today?
Wheelchair ramps provide wheelchair users with the means to access vehicles and buildings. There are a multitude of wheelchair ramps availlable today. Here are a few:
– Wheelchair Ramps for Vans: These would be used to gain access to and from a van or MPV.
– Threshold Wheelchair Ramps: Used in doorways and entrances. Typically these are used in public buildings and businesses where they are required to provide wheelchair access.
– Track Wheelchair Ramps: This type of ramp is designed to align with the tyres of a wheelchair.
– Portable Wheelchair Ramps: These are adaptable, flexible ramp systems, often telescopic, that can be used in a variety of applications.
* Is it easy to install wheelchair ramps in homes?
The quick answer to this question is Yes! There are many wheelchair ramp designs available today making them suitable for a whole range of situations. You will probably be able to find a wheelchair ramp that meets your requirements and if not maybe a lift for wheelchairs would meet your needs.
* What are the pros and cons of a wheelchair ramp vs. a lift for wheelchairs?
Both ramps and lifts have their respective uses. It must be remembered that both wheelchair ramps and lifts have maximum weight capacities. Always check and be certain that your chosen ramp or lift is strong enough for your needs.
* Which types of vehicles are best for wheelchair lifts?
There are many models of vans, cars and MPVs (multi person vehicles) that adapt beautifully for wheelchair access a wheelchair suitable lift. There are specialist wheelchair accessible vehicle suppliers who will carry out professional adaptation of your chosen vehicle. It’s always worth talking to a garage experienced in carrying out vehicle adaptations for wheelchair access. Most will install the lift at the rear of the vehicle so that the lift folds away into the rear door space when not in use.
* Is it possible to hire adapted wheelchair accessible vehicles?
Yes. Many vehicle hire firms now provide wheelchair adapted vehicles that are suitable for most wheelchair users. I suggest that you contact your local van and car hire providers.
It’s always a good idea to equip your van with a pair of portable, telescopic, general purpose wheelchair ramps for those situations where ramps just aren’t available.
Its a good idea to look for a Motability converter partner who can use your motability allowance to provide you with a new vehicle.
How To Get Old With Peace Of Mind
March 9, 2010 by admin
I have never really imagined what it would be like to be old but I have a pretty vague idea. What really intrigues me with reaching the 80’s and 90’s is how one’s life becomes somewhat static and still. Nothing seems to move; breathe; stimulate or surprise. This is why I told myself that something has to change if one is to truly enjoy being old and useless.
For an elderly person the past in nothing more like a gust of wind that blows past your face in the middle of summer. It is somehow a deeply treasured episode of life that seems unremembered and forgotten. But if you have a catalogued piece of history you can very easily control the excitement of looking back at the moments best lived. Keeping a picture album or videos of good memories will definitely make you smile in your old age.
There are a million or billion occasions in our lives where we were together with friends or family. Instead of just letting time erase fond memories by watching the day go by unnoticed you should start to take pictures and videos. It appears it is our grandparents who prove to us the worth of such catalogues of material. Many a time you will see your grandparents skimming through the scrapbook album with smiles and joy.
Friends are said to be made, not found. Before time runs out take every opportunity to make as many friends as possible. There is no guarantee that the friends you have now will still be there when you’re in your old age. So to increase the chances of having companions to share memories with be interactive and sociable during your twilight years.
When we are still young we must control our intake of alcohol; drugs and supplements. This aspect of heath awareness must never be ignored because it is very possible to reach old age in a state of pathetic sickness. Be sure to watch your health very carefully because the body’s response to illness weakens as we grow older. You can be diagnosed of breast cancer or heart disease when you’re in your 70’s, a time when it will be too late to battle for your life.
So in order to reach old age in perfect health you must stick to a balanced diet. This means a sufficient amount of leafy vegetables like lettuce; cabbage and spinach to get essential vitamins for a strong immune system. With the right amount of attention to detail it won’t be necessary to buy anti aging skin care products. Don’t neglect meat; milk; eggs and whole wheat for fiber and protein as these nutrients are very important for your body’s health.
You can be extremely happy and healthy in your old age, if only you could do the things listed above. It is nothing complicated if you pay attention.
Stay Young By Staying Youthful
March 9, 2010 by admin
Sooner or later, we all come to realize that we’re getting older, though that sort of aging usually is completely calendar-centered. The true metrics of aging involve far more than growing old as far as calendars go, and that’s a comforting thing. After all, Germaine Greer said it best; you’re only young once, but you can be immature forever. She really knew what she was talking about.
In that vein, consider what you might do to affirm your essential youthfulness (even if you’re heading into your seventh decade of life) and street cred, so to speak. If you’ve never picked up a musical instrument like a guitar, you might want to consider doing so. And don’t worry if you’re a southpaw because a left handed electric guitar is readily available and ready to be blasted.
It really doesn’t matter what you do as you age up, because it’s more important that you just get up and do something to keep moving and stay active. Your body may try to convince you that it’s far better to sit on the porch, soaking up the sun and drying out like a raisin, but it’s only trying to trick you into stopping whatever it is you’re doing.
Consider that you might be feeling a twinge every once in a while from that leg arthritis you developed as a result of some broken bone you end up getting from a skateboard accident when you were younger. There are certainly ways to manage such arthritis and it really doesn’t mean that this so-called ‘infirmity of age’ needs to do much of anything to keep you from moving around.
If you’re experiencing achy joints, realize that there are also a myriad of ways to help deal with that, too. Head over to that big outlet department store and pick up a jumbo bottle of Kirkland glucosamine and start taking it every day. For sure, your joints are going to be much happier with you and you’re going to like being able to get out there and mix it up like in the days of old.
This doesn’t mean, also, that you’ll be the all-world athlete you once were in your youth, but the famous writer George Bernard Shaw said it best when he observed that we don’t stop playing because we get older, but that we get older because we stop playing. That’s a great philosophy of life to carry around with you whenever you’re out and about.
Remember; do things that help you be youthful in more ways than just chronologically. Get out there and play or learn to strum a guitar or beat on some drums. Also, laugh as much as you can and do it deeply and for a long time. You’d be surprised at what you can make your body do when you’re suitably motivated, after all.
